Flipped Classroom
Another strategy to support more lab time within the classroom is to adopted a flipped classroom approach. The flipped classroom is a pedagogical approach in which the traditional lecture and homework components of a class are reversed. Using this approach, students would view a video lecture at home prior to exploration of the concepts in class. These narrated notes can be created by the instructor or selected from an online repository. Instructors can easily create these videos or narrated notes by using a variety of possible technologies, including a simple Power Point presentation and Adobe Presenter. Lectures can be posted on Teacher Tube, YouTube, Blackboard or similar sites for student access.
In flipping your classroom delivery, your class time is freed up to engage in more laboratory experiences and additional activities that help to reinforce content and address misconceptions.
